On this page you will find examples of different kinds of pronouns used by English speakers. Pronouns



Nominal Pronouns

I     you     he     she    
it      we     they    

These words are used to replace the names of people places or things mentioned in a sentence. For example:

Mary is pretty. She is pretty.
The table is round. It is round.
Tom and Dave are twins. They are twins.



Possesive Pronouns

my     mine     your     yours    
his      her     hers    its    our    ours    their    theirs    

These words are used to indicate ownership. For example:

This is my watch. It's mine.
That is your pencil. It's yours.
That is his money. It's his.
This is the car's wheel. This is its wheel.
Those are their cards. Those cards are theirs.



Objective Pronouns

me     you     him     her    
it      us    them    

These words are used to identify a person or an object without using their name. For example:

Give the keys to me please.
The president? Yes, that's him.
It's them! They're here! Hurry! Hide!



Demonstrative Pronouns

this     that     these     those    

These words are used to identify a person or an object which is either closeby or relatively far away. This (closeby) is singular. These (closeby) is plural. That (far) is singular. Those (far) is plural. For example:

This boy beside me is very intelligent.
These chairs in front of me are broken.
That insect over there is big.
Those women across the street are singing.



Reflexive Pronouns

myself     yourself     himself     herself    
itself      yourselves    ourselves    themselves    

These words are used when a person or an object does something that refers back to that person or pbject. For example:

I like to buy myself presents.
He talks to himself.
We never blame ourselves for our problems.
