Everyone has to start somewhere. Sometimes it means just putting a couple of sentences together in order to share an idea. I try to encourage all of my students to write short texts. This, I feel, is an explicit task which helps them to understand the importance and the logic behind sentence structure. I'm not looking for novels or long essays, but I ask them to give me what they have to give according to where they are in their personal evolution as a language learner. They built the pyramids one brick at a time and writing is very much the same process. We build on what we already know.
